Instructions for using pH and redox
combination electrodes

  | Storage | Calibration |

Storage
pH and redox combination electrodes are stored in this medium which is filled in the reference system of the sensor. It is 3 mol/l or saturated KCl solution which is in the watering cap. pH and redox combination electrodes must never be stored in deionised water.
Calibration
  • Rinse the sensor with deionised water.
  • Immerse the sensor in the buffer solution that the diaphragm is wetted completely.
  • Be sure that the sensor and the buffer have taken the same temperature value.
  • Rinse the sensor with deionised water before changing to the next buffer.
    Dispose the used buffer solution.
Pay attention to the manual of the sensor and the measuring instrument.
Cleaning
Clean diaphragm, glass membrane or platinum disc of the sensor with water and dap it dry with a paper towel.
Oily and organic contamination:
Protein contamination:
Rinse the sensor with ethanol.
Immerse the sensor in pepsin cleaning solution that the diaphragm is wetted completely.

After cleaning rinse the sensor with deionised water and put it in its storage solution. Before the next measurement calibrating is necessary.
Reconditioning
pH combination electrodes with decreasing slope and a slow response time can be reconditioned with a special solution. The glass membrane of the sensor is immersed for 2 minutes in maximum in the reconditioning solution. The diaphragm must never be wetted. After that the sensor is rinsed with deionised water and kept in its storage solution for 1 hour. Before the next measurement calibrating is necessary.
